Listening & Loving: August 2018
It’s been a whirlwind of a year and I haven’t exactly been consistent sharing the music that I am listening to! But, after a much needed break, I am excited to share some of my more recent favourites here…
As you’ll be able to tell, there is certainly a mixed bag here! But there is something in all of these pieces that I find intriguing, satisfying, enjoyable and inspiring. Enjoy this eclectic selection!
Piano Concerto No. 2 – Brahms
This is a masterpiece! I can’t get over how well crafted it is – the orchestration, melodies, harmonies are all to die for.
Riverdance: Music from the Show
This music is from my childhood – I remember watching the recording of the Riverdance show over and over on VCR and being amazed at the costumes, dancing, beautiful melodies and at times unfamiliar soundworld.
I have recently rediscovered it and really really love it both as a dose of nostalgia and as music with rhythm and motion that I find really interesting and exciting. I particularly ‘Firedance’ and ‘The Heart’s Cry’.
Animal Spirits – Vulfpeck
This is something entirely different, but is certainly something fun and quirky and fun that I have been enjoying thanks to my friend Liam who introduced me to this song. I especially love how crisp and clean the recording is – best enjoyed through good speakers or a good pair of headphones!!
Adagio for Strings – Barber
Not sure what else to say, except that it is beautiful and incredibly emotional.
Glittering Clouds (Locusts) – Imogen Heap
I love Imogen Heap’s music, I have for quite a while now. If you haven’t heard her music you need to check it out here! Glittering Clouds is a more recent discovery for me, and I just love the soundworld that she is exploring in this piece.
