Short Biography
Sophie Van Dijk is an emerging Sydney-based composer who writes music to offer reflection on the world around her, inspired by community, nature, friendship, and faith.
Sophie has been selected for mentoring programs including Omega Ensemble’s CoLAB and ICEBERG New Music Institute (USA). She was the recipient of the 2025 Jenny Bounds Young Composer Prize from Penrith Symphony Orchestra to commission and perform her new work Sunset Edge.
Sophie has extensive experience in copying, orchestration, production and music administration and works for Jigsaw Music under Jessica Wells.
Sophie holds a Bachelor of Music (Composition) with first class honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and is currently composer-in-residence at Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College.
