Workshops & Education

Workshops & Education

I have had extensive experience as an educator mentoring and tutoring students of all ages. I love sharing my passion for composition, and supporting young musicians to develop and express creative ideas musically. I find it energising and inspiring to get to know the next generation of musicians, and believe that it is imperative that young people are exposed to the diversity of contemporary composers & compositional practice.

Composition mentor & presenter in schools

I have worked as a composer-in-residence, have mentored high-school music students to develop group compositions, have presented workshops about my composition process and practice for primary and high-school music students, and have worked to collaboratively develop material with students for new school ensemble commissions.

Schools I’ve worked with include Trinity Grammar School, Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College, Canberra Grammar School & Radford College.

I’d love to discuss how I could contribute to your music program in a way that will suit you and your students. Get the conversation started by emailing me!

Individual tutoring

I also offer individual composition, music theory, and, harmony & aural tutoring. Contact me for rates and availability.

I clearly remember the first time I met a “real-live” composer during my high-school music lessons - it was an incredibly formative moment. I could see myself in the Aussie composer who we were privileged to have a Zoom Q&A with, and she de-mystified composition for me. She was just an ordinary person who enjoyed writing music and sharing it with other people! Before that moment I thought that being a composer was inaccessible, that composers were mostly dead people, or fancy, ethereal people writing symphonies in secluded libraries who I would never meet. I didn’t seriously consider that my passion for writing music was something I could consider pursuing once I left school until after that moment in grade 9. This is why I’m so passionate about working in schools, meeting young musicians and sharing what it means to be a practicing composer today.
